The old time woodsmen and many of the tricks they had to deal with wilderness living. He called these folks "Woodsmasters" because they had special skills that made them masters of the woods, each and every one of them had the essential skills to make it on the land. That is the purpose behind this video series... to teach the skills needed to live in the wilds.... like a woodsmaster.

This series presents the special skills that can make your time in the wilderness more enjoyable, safer and make you far more confident. The videos are hosted by Ron Hood who will show you many interesting and important wilderness living and survival skills. The presentation of these skills is enhanced with clear explanation, great photography and many of the special "little tricks" that few but the most experienced Woodsmaster will ever know.


1: Spark Based Fire Starting

11. Solo Survival Skills
Follow Ron hood as he travels deep into the mountains of Idaho for a two-week test of his survival skills. During his adventure he is poisoned by bad food, attacked by a moose and finds that a forest fire has destroyed most of the small game and fish. To top it off the summer weather quickly became a two week winter storm. With less than a pound of food for the two weeks and only a blanket and a tarp for shelter in the subfreezing temperatures you will learn how even a planned survival test can quickly become the 'Real thing'.
You will learn about energy conservation, clothing insulation values, wilderness travel and priorities. You will see how to make a bone fish hook, Prepare 'cowboy coffee', hunt with a club, relieve tension and much much more.
This trip was the "real thing" and it's a good thing that Hood follows his own advice to 'Never Solo alone'. He gives instructions on how to prepare for such an experience and a great review of the 18 pound pack that served his needs during the 14 days of survival living.
Not only is this video filled with important survival skills it is a humorous and entertaining production. We think you will enjoy this video as you learn new skills and advanced techniques.

Episode 2 - Starvation
If it's something I maintain to that one can do without in a typical survival situation (shorter than a couple of weeks), it's food. In this episode I get out in nature to starve for one day while I also present my gear in (too much) detail. I also brought a blood glucose meter to measure my blood sugar level. It's revealed that spruce needle tea contains some amount of sugar (although small).

Me and Johan Forsberg from Nordic Bushcraft starve in the forest during a weekend while attempting to move cross the terrain and abseil/rappel down mountain cliffs. It was rainy and Johan didn't bring a sleeping bag or a proper shelter. We brought very little food, but I still enjoyed the comfort of a bivybag, a sleeping bag, and a sleeping mat which made the night comfortable.

After more than twenty years of film, equipment Al Filo Unable to present a documentary on the conquest of Everest by almost a century of images that reflect what has been the conquest of the highest mountain Earth. We have searched for images and interviews, like that of John Hunt, chairman of the British expedition of 1953 to which he attaches the first ascent by Tenzing and Hillary and other climbers and prestigious writers such as Maurice Herzog, the first man to hit a peak of over eight thousand meters, Chris Bonington, the head of some of the expeditions to Everest, and Reinhold Messner, who performed the greatest feat in the Everest climb in 1980 alone and without oxygen. One of the biggest innovations involves black and white film in the reconstruction of the escalation of Mallory and Irving in 1924. The fruit of that experience is a unique audio-visual narration in which thoughts arise on an issue that symbolizes the passion of man for wanting to leave any further by climbing higher and in particular for the highest of them all: the mother goddess of land, Everest. It also shows a historical view of the climbs on this mountain, ending with an expedition that seeks to reach the summit without oxygen
