In Venetica the young women Scarlett, who actually is the daughter of Death himself, has to face a powerful necromancer - who cheated on Death - and his minions because they killed her fiancé. She travels to Venice in order to bring the course of the world back to order.

The German developers of Deck 13, known for the adventures Jack Kean and Ankh, use the open source engine OGRE for Venetica. The D3D9 renderer offers HDR and Anti Aliasing - especially the latter one isn't always supported by cross platform titles. The graphics of Venetica suffers from a slight shortage of polygons, rough shadows and sometimes washy textures. Furthermore the developers have apparently missed to integrate Mip Mapping since all textures reveal Aliasing and flicker if the character moves. To put it bluntly: Mip Mapping reduces the resolution of the textures the farer they are away from the camera. This reduces the flickering and increases the performance. Regardless of the technical problems mentioned, Venetica convinces with atmospheric, sometimes even comic like, graphics and especially the characters appear very emotionally. In the German version the voice actors are very good, too.

In contrast to the good atmosphere there is the performance: On our test system (Core i7-920 @ 3.5 GHz, 6 GiByte DDR3-1400 and Vista x64) a Radeon HD 4870/1G reached at 1,680 x 1,050 pixels with maximal details (no AA/AF) only 35 to 40 fps, with 4x MSAA/16:1 AF the framerate drops below 30 fps. At 1,920 x 1,200 with 4x MSAA/16:1 AF a GTX 285 is struggling with the 30 fps limit, too. On the other hand the system requirements that have been issued by Deck 13 are surprisingly honest. With the recommended configuration we reach more than 30 fps at almost any time running the game at 1,280 x 1,024 (no AA/AF). According to our benchmarks Venetica does not benefit from more than two cores.

To become death in Venetica is a calling, fulfilled by a man of flesh and
blood - equipped with special supernatural skills in order to be able to
carry out the duties of the office.

A new death is selected regularly by "Corpus", a secret council. This time
however Corpus really makes a wrong decision: The "new" death, Victor,
turns out to be a crazed necromancer who manages to turn himself into an
overpowering undead with seedy tricks and dark rituals and thus attains
almost unlimited power in addition to immortality.

As it is strictly forbidden for the chosen death to devote himself to
necromancy, the committee revokes Victor's nomination immediately and
declares a new death in his stead without delay.

The power-hungry Victor however does not want to relinquish his position
again. He continues to practice the dark arts in order to gather numerous
dark and dangerous creatures and tainted souls from the underworld around
him. He thus succeeds in eliminating the newly designated death and takes
over his power for his own purposes. The effects on the world's balance are
calamitous and - should Victor be able to keep himself in power - its dark
consequences are irreversible.

Only a person who has the same mighty powers as Victor can prevent his
prevailing and vent him his deserved punishment.

Scarlett, the daughter of the real death does not know anything about her
ancestry and the hidden talents which slumber within her. She is immersed
suddenly in this story due to the brutal attack on her home village and
the tragic loss of Benedict, the love of her life.

It is a story which she now begins to write herself, a story during the
course of which she unleashes her capabilities, a story in which she tries
to save Benedict from the world of the dead and a story in which she must
protect the world of the living from the dark threat posed by Victor and
his henchmen.

Venetica keluar juga, tp tampaknya versi bajakan ini akan tenggelam oleh Mass Effect 2.
Tp tetep gw mesti maen, penasaran soalnya apalagi yg publish juga sama kaya Divinity 2 Ego Draconics yg menurut pribadi cukup lumayan

gw jg pengen nyobain nih, rencananya sih abis kelar download ME2 lansung lanjut download Venetica...
tapi masih mikir2.. gw liat koq rasanya ini game > 1 DVD ya? sizenya 4700MB... gmn tuh :swt:

btw ni game ga mungkin ketutup dengan launchnya Mass Effect 2,emang sama2 ada unsur RPG nya,tp beda dr segi model grafis n gameplaynya,jadi menurut gw sih maen aja dua2nya kwkwkw

lagi test install, mudah-mudahan kesan pertama game ini cukup lumayan. gak ancur pas dulu maen Dungeon Lords / Gothic III

sejauh ini: Cukup lumayan bagus, buat pengembang sm publisher yg jarang gw denger namanya. cuma penggambaran model 3d karakternya masih terlihat kaku, tidak terlalu bagus.

so far gw maenin Venetica,, asyik sm battleny yg bag big bug with only one button :hehe: ~mksdny praktis gitu

setting lokasi am timeline juga enak untuk dilihat dan dinikmati,,

nah cuman yg jadi masalah,, ntah knp ini game agak kerasa lag,, engineny saya rasa kurang cantik,,

interface menu too simple,, dan kadang bikin bingung ~contoh pas ga bs jual senjata yg gy diequip walau quantityny lbh dari satu

ceritany so far juga ga cheesy kok,, revenge or love pursue, ~maklumlah tokoh utamany ce yg sakti hati krn liat co-ny mati didepan mata..



klo aj ini game rilisny ga berdekatan sama Mass Effect 2, gw yakin bakal rame yg maenin,, :hehe:
