Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has set his sights on a return to
the England team as he approaches the 'final hurdle' of his rehabilitation from injury.

The 28-year-old has been out for 13 months with tendinitis in his knees but is close to a comeback following work in America with specialist Dr Richard Steadman.

'It's looking very well,' he said. 'I want to make sure this last hurdle is successful and hope I'll be back with the team very soon.'

Hargreaves' recovery is being monitored by England boss Fabio Capello, who last had the former Bayern Munich midfielder available for the friendly win over USA in May 2008.

After being voted England's player of the tournament for the 2006 World Cup, Hargreaves wants to be part of the 2010 finals in South Africa.

'It is a very exciting time just being part of the England set-up,' said Hargreaves.

'We have a fantastic group of players and a successful manager. We have had a great qualifying campaign, which we didn't have for Euro 2008.

'This was the first hurdle, and it's a shame I couldn't have been part of it more. I hope I can get back to being healthy and play some great games for Manchester United, then get back into the England team.'

Sir Alex Ferguson, who retains an interest in bringing Douglas Costa of Gremio to Old Trafford, has revealed that Manchester United have deployed a second scout in Brazil to scour what he considers to be one of the best areas in the world to scout for players.

In a radio interview in the US, Ferguson also provided more hints that he has had to work on keeping striker Federico Macheda's feet on the ground after his dramatic goals against Aston Villa and Sunderland shot him to prominence last season. "I've got to be careful when I talk about Italian players you know," he said. "The thing about Macheda of course is that he had a great first season. He was only 17 when he made his debut, and scored that winning goal against Aston Villa.

"That projected him into a different kind of profile. Most people hadn't even heard of the boy. Now we're having to deal with the improvement of the lad, and he's got strong, and he's got bigger, he's an outstanding finisher. We're trying to improve parts of his game which will be important for his development as a top player."

Ferguson revealed that when he saw the striker with two Italian girls after United lost in the Champions League final in Rome, he quipped: "When I was 17 I had three girls! It's wishful thinking," Ferguson explained. "I did say that to him and he was quite impressed."

Sir Alex Ferguson's interest in the Standard Liège captain, Steven Defour, was revealed to the world in embarrassing circumstances for the Manchester United manager today when it emerged he had written a letter of sympathy to the 21-year-old midfielder wishing him a speedy recovery from a broken metatarsal and promising that he will "remain in contact" with the Belgium club.

Ferguson also promised Defour that he would continue to chart his progress once he has recovered from an injury that is expected to keep him out until mid-January. The United manager, mindful that he has been accused in the past of "tapping up" players, is understood to have gone through Liège officially, and was shocked to discover that his letter had been released to the Belgian media.

"Dear Steven, I have just heard about your injury and, in the name of Manchester United, I would like to wish you a full and speedy recovery," Ferguson wrote. "I am sure at the moment you must be feeling awful and that you'll have all kinds of questions. Steven, these are natural worries but I have to tell you that modern medicine and treatments are incredible; you have to have confidence in them. Don't worry, everything will work out. You will have to work hard to come back and I am going to follow your performances. I will remain in contact with Standard."

United have confirmed that the letter is genuine but that Ferguson considered it a "private matter". Ferguson likes to keep his transfer targets a closely guarded secret but it is now clear that Defour features prominently in his thinking.

"I don't want to talk about it too much," Defour told the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. "I would like to make it clear that he [Ferguson] followed the official procedure. It's a really nice gesture but I wouldn't want people to get the idea that I think I'm already a Manchester United player. But if they come knocking, then I would not cause problems."

Defour, who is under contract until 2013, made his league debut in Belgium as a 16-year-old and was made Standard's captain when only 19, a year after his full international debut. He was voted the Belgian league's player of the year in 2007, and in 2008 guided Standard to their first title in a quarter of a century as well as being influential as they retained that honour last season. He has also been linked with Liverpool, Everton and Aston Villa.

Ferguson will submit his official explanation to the Football Association today for accusing the referee Alan Wiley of not being fit enough to officiate United's 2-2 draw against Sunderland. The United manager has apologised and the FA will have to decide whether he should face a charge of improper conduct.

Wiley, meanwhile, is to be given a short cooling-off period from matches at Old Trafford, with the appointment-makers at the Professional Game Match Officials Limited aware of the pressure he will be under when he next visits United's ground. The selection process takes into account previous controversies. Martin Atkinson, to use one example, has refereed only twice at Old Trafford since Ferguson heavily criticised his performance in United's FA Cup defeat to Portsmouth 19 months ago, resulting in FA charges.

However, there is also a desire within the PGMOL to pledge its support to the 49-year-old official by restoring him to United's matches not too long after the current issue has been resolved.

Dundee United legend Ralph Milne has been recalling his time with Manchester United.

Milne is on a book tour to promote 'What's it all about, Ralphie' and told The Herald about his shock transfer to United.

He moved to Old Trafford in 1988, with Sir Alex Ferguson acting on a hunch. It was a decision that was to test the great manager’s trust in his instincts. He might have signed John Barnes instead, and later sacked the chief scout who advised him against it. In three seasons, Milne played little more than 30 games, and found himself in the midst of the drinking culture that Ferguson set about eradicating .

“I walked into the dressing room and wee Gordon [Strachan] looked up and said, ‘what the f*** are you doing here?.” Milne says. “My peg was between big Norman [Whiteside] and big Paul [McGrath].

"At the time, the injured players used to go to the Sharp suite and drink champagne while watching the match. Ferguson stopped that straight away. He definitely thought there was too much boozing.”

Brazilian midfielder Anderson insists he is happy with life at Manchester United.

After a disappointing start to the campaign, when he was involved in just one of United's opening four Premier League games - the shock defeat at Burnley - Anderson is starting to find his form again.

The 21-year-old added another five appearances to his tally during September - and also managed to score his first goal for the Old Trafford outfit, over two years after his £17million arrival from FC Porto.

And the midfielder admits he is enjoying himself again.

"I feel happy here," said Anderson.

"Everybody has times that are not the best but I am at home here.

"I have been at Manchester United for three years. Everyone at the club is nice to me. It is like a family."

Anderson has suffered more than most in the summer upheaval that marked the departures of close friends Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.

He is still in touch with the pair, but feels it is time for United to look to the future.

"Ronaldo is still a big friend of mine. Wherever he and Tevez are, nothing will change. We are great friends," said Anderson.

"They were both very important players for this club.

"However, this often happens in football and the club has to move on.

"We still have great players here like Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Nani. Now we also have Antonio Valencia.

"United must go forward and not get stuck in the past."

Sir Alex Ferguson will certainly be intending for United to go forward this weekend, when his side entertain Bolton looking for a win after that unexpected and controversial slip-up against Sunderland a fortnight ago.

Wayne Rooney and Jonny Evans will both be checked after pulling out of midweek international engagements, while Edwin van der Sar is expected to earn a recall after breaking his fingers during a pre-season game in Munich.

As for Anderson, he is just hoping for another opportunity to add to his scoring tally.

"I should score more goals but the way the team plays it can be very difficult to get inside the area," he said.

"Hopefully I will have more chances in the future and I can score lots more for Manchester United."

Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled Wayne Rooney out of Manchester United's Premier League encounter with Bolton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Rooney picked up a calf injury during England's World Cup qualifying defeat in the Ukraine last weekend.

And despite returning straight to United's Carrington training ground for treatment, the striker will not be fit to face the Trotters, when Edwin Van Der Saar will be in goal.

Ferguson does retain an outside hope that Rooney will be available for Wednesday's Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow, although a return for the key clash with Liverpool at Anfield on October 25 is more likely.

"Calf injuries can be troublesome," said Ferguson. "We are trying our best to get him fit for Wednesday but I have my doubts on that. But Wayne should be fit for the Liverpool game.

"We know how difficult these things can be so we will not be taking any chances with the Moscow trip."

For Van Der Sar it is a welcome first appearance of the season after he broke two fingers during a friendly with Bayern Munich in July.

Ben Foster has had his difficulties in goal since and Ferguson has no hesitation in bringing the veteran Dutchman back.

"Edwin plays tomorrow," said Ferguson.

"He had a reserve game 10 days ago and has come through that fine. He has been training for quite a spell now but with a hand injury you don't take any chances and that game has given him a good confidence boost."

Ferguson also confirmed Michael Owen is available after a recent groin problem, although the Scot is still waiting for the return of Dimitar Berbatov, whose partner has had a baby in their native Bulgaria, to declare whether he is in the right frame of mind to play before deciding on his final line-up.

I've been at the club for just over two years now and I feel very happy.

Of course everybody has times that are not the best, but I know I'm at home here. I'm a part of the family and I care very much for everyone.

It is an honour to play with all the great players at this club – the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville have lived their whole lives at United, they are like the coat of arms for the club. It's an honour to be working alongside people like that.

I want to keep improving and score more goals. I was delighted with my first goal against Tottenham at White Hart Lane in September – it was a great moment to finally score for United and it felt very special to have all my team-mates surrounding me in celebration.

I should be scoring more goals, but the way the team plays means it can be difficult to get inside the area at times. I just want to continue to play well and score many more goals for the club in the future.

Foster Kiper Terbaik Inggris

MANCHESTER - Pelatih Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson masih menyimpan rasa bangga kepada kiper Ben Foster, kendati tidak akan memainkannya pada laga melawan Bolton Wanderers, akhir pekan ini.

Kiper internasional Inggris tersebut menjadi pembicaraan setelah melakukan beberapa kesalahan fatal. Foster membuat blunder bukan hanya saat tampil dengan United, namun ketika tampil untuk The Three Lions.

Posisi Foster harus tergeser lagi setelah kiper utama United Edwin van der Sar kembali masuk dalam skuad Red Devils, akhir pekan ini. Namun, Ferguson tetap menyebut bahwa Foster adalah kiper terbaik yang dimiliki Inggris.

"Saya tetap merasa bahwa Foster adalah kiper yang paling baik di Inggris. Dia sudah tampil luar biasa. Melakukan penyelamatan penting kala Inggris melawan Belarusia, pertengahan pekan ini," jelas Ferguson seperti disitat Goal, Sabtu (17/10/2009).

"Tipikal dalam level performa seperti itu yang sering ditunjukan kepada kami. Dia senang mendemonstrasikan kemampuannya. Namun, Foster tetap harus banyak belajar dari pengalaman," lanjut Fergie.

Dalam satu dekade terakhir, Inggris seakan kehilangan kiper bagus. Terakhir, kiper Robert Green harus diusir wasit saat Inggris kalah melawan Ukraina. Sebelumnya, Paul Robinson menjadi penyebab gagalnya Inggris ke Euro 2008.

Wayne Rooney will miss Manchester United's match against Bolton because of a calf injury he suffered during England's defeat in Ukraine last week. Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will make his first appearance of the season, but Dimitar Berbatov could miss out following the birth of his first child.

Sam Ricketts is a doubt for Bolton after pulling out of Wales' World Cup qualifiers with an ankle problem. Wanderers have no other fresh injury concerns for the trip to Old Trafford.

United have matches against CSKA Moscow and Liverpool coming up, and Ferguson is hopeful that Rooney will at least be fit for the latter.

"Calf injuries can be troublesome," said Ferguson. "We are trying our best to get him fit for Wednesday but I have my doubts on that. But Wayne should be fit for the Liverpool game. We know how difficult these things can be so we will not be taking any chances with the Moscow trip."

Having been forced to apologise for questioning the fitness of referee Alan Wiley, Sir Alex Ferguson will need to show restraint on Saturday. It might not be easy, as he has history against Bolton and referee Mark Clattenburg.

During a 1-0 defeat at Bolton in November 2007, Sir Alex was sent to the stands, given a two-match touchline ban and fined £5,000 for using "insulting words" against Clattenburg.

Atleti's board have previously said debts were around £155m, but Abasolo insists that figures audited at the end of June show the true net figure to be about £275m.

Aguero, who also interests Barcelona and Real Madrid, was told in the summer that he could not leave for less than his buy-out clause, set at about £55m.

Silva's representatives have told Valencia they have received at least two firm offers for the player – and the club believes one of those comes from Manchester United.

I am led to believe that this will be Thierry Henry's last season at Barcelona and with at least two presidential candidates ahead of next summer's club elections having already contacted David Villa, Camp Nou remains his most likely destination.

Wellbeck masuk bukan kiko karena diharapkan wellbeck mampu membawa bola dari mid sampe depan untuk counter attack (tp ternyata tdk berjalan baik)

Dua pemain pilar Liverpool, Steven Gerrard dan Fernando Torres, tak mengikuti sesi latihan di klubnya kemarin. Keduanya absen karena masih menderita cedera.

Gerrard kabarnya menderita cedera pangkal paha. Akibat cedera itu ia tidak bisa memperkuat Inggris dalam pertandingan kualifikasi Piala Dunia melawan Belarus, Rabu (14/10) kemarin. Sedangkan Torres bermasalah dengan betisnya.

Apakah keduanya bisa memperkuat Liverpool saat bertandang ke Sunderland, Sabtu (17/10) ini? Belum bisa dipastikan. Liverpool dalam pernyataannya melalui situs klub kemarin mengatakan kalau kedua pemain ini masih perlu mendapatkan perawatan dari tim medis.

"Gerrard dan Torres tidak mengikuti sesi latihan hari ini karena tidak fit. Besok (Jumat 16/10) ini mereka masih harus menjalani perawatan lanjutan," demikian pernyataan dari klub.

Pemain lainnya yang juga cedera adalah bek Sotiris Kyrgiakos. Pemain ini mengalami cedera otot ligamen saat membela negaranya Yunani di laga terakhir kualifikasi Piala Dunia, Rabu (14/10) lalu.

Michael Owen has revealed that he is perfectly happy at Manchester United and feels included in the squad despite not being a first choice for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Owen has played a series of useful cameos rather than a major role for the Red Devils so far this campaign, but does not feel as though he is being left on the margin of things.

"I think if I was 19 or 20, playing really well and scoring loads of goals and being constantly on the bench, then I'd definitely have a different outlook than now, when I've played a long time," he told The Mail on Sunday Magazine.

"I've not been left out of the squad since I've been there and it's great. I feel part of the team, part of the squad.

"The manager's said to me that I'll play my fair share of games. In any case,' he points out, 'if you'd said to me in the summer, 'You're going to go to Manchester United and be the fourth-choice striker and start ten games and come off the bench ten times, and that's your lot', then I would have snapped your hand off."

Meanwhile, the former Liverpool striker is also expecting a hostile reception when he returns to Anfield as a United player next Sunday.

"I'm human. I'd prefer people to sit down and recognise what you did for them and for the team in years gone past but I'm pretty realistic as well and now that I'm playing for their arch rivals," he added.

"I'm not holding my breath, put it that way."

Nani lost his best friend, landlord and chauffeur when Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United.

But the Portuguese winger believes he can now emerge from the Old Trafford shadows.

Manchester United have applied for a work permit for Serbian starlet Adem Ljajic and hope the 18-year-old will finally join the club this January.

Ljajic was signed in January 2009 alongside team mate Zoran Tosic but was immediately loaned back to Partizan Belgrade.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Given all the talk about him and the fact he plays for Serbia's Under 21s even though he's only 18, we hope we will be granted the permit."

Ferguson added on Ljajic: "I am looking forward to seeing him."

Ljajic has made 11 appearances for Partizan Belgrade in 2009/2010, scoring two goals and he has also picked up three yellow cards.

Adem Ljajic’s last goal for Partizan came in the 4-1 Europa League defeat at the beginning of this month.

Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool are battling it out for 16-year-old Plymouth defender Jamie Richards, according to a report in The People.

Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be favourite to sign the tall defender who has been impressing in Plymouth’s youth team.

Richards has been appearing for the Plymouth Under-18 side since the age of 15 and is a strong left-sided defender.

The youngster is expected to make a move from the struggling Championship side in the coming weeks.

A report in The People this morning claims Manchester United are homing in on one of the most talented youngsters in Brazil, Santos winger Neymar.

Scott Piecha and Steve Bates report that "The Manchester United boss is sending scouts to the Under 17 World Cup in Nigeria at the end of this month to watch striker Neymar, 17, hailed as the new Pele. United have had him watched in Brazil but are stepping up their interest in a bid to beat off competition from the likes of AC Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester City."

Piecha and Bates add: "Santos have slapped a £12million price tag on their star and are insisting no deal can be completed until the summer. United, however, are looking to agree a fee now to secure his move to Old Trafford."

Neymar has been a regular in the Santos side during 2009, playing 28 games, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

There has been hype surrounding Neymar since he was 13 and due to the fact that he has come through the ranks at Santos he has been nicknamed the “new Pele” as well as the "new Robinho."

Official annoucement expected later today after pals say Wayne is a new dad

COLEEN Rooney has gone to hospital - where she is said to have made husband Wayne a proud dad by giving birth, the News of the World can reveal.

A heavily-pregnant Coleen was taken to Liverpool's Women's Hospital earlier today - and pals are claiming The Rooney's became proud parents soon after 1pm.

There has been no official confirmation of the birth, but an annoucement his expected later today. Friends of the couple are already celebrating.

Last week the News of the World told how Coleen had snubbed a £1 MILLION deal with a glossy mag for pictures of her and Wayne's baby.

The WAG made the decision because she wants their child to be kept OUT of the spotlight completely.

She was determined to have her first baby naturally and chose Liverpool Women's Hospital - an NHS Trust six miles from where they grew up in Croxteth - for the birth.

The baby was due on October 24, Rooney's 24th birthday, the couple had revealed Coleen was expecting their first child in April.

The Portugal winger continues to frustrate Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson after an inconsistent start to the season.

Fergie expected him to step out of Cristiano Ronaldo's shadow when he sold the World Player of the Year to Real Madrid in the summer.

Instead Nani has failed to mature and Fergie is already considering his options for the United flop.

Nani had been earmarked for a potential loan move to Wigan last summer but that was blocked by the United chief as he decided to give the player another chance to shine.

Nani, however, has yet to take it.

United continue to monitor the form of Valencia playmaker David Silva and will test the water again in the January transfer window.

Silva has made it clear that he wants to move to United but the two clubs are a long way apart in their valuations.

Michael Owen has vowed to celebrate if he scores against former club Liverpool and accused modern football fans of double standards.

Owen returns to Liverpool on Sunday for the first time since joining their arch rivals Manchester United on a free transfer from Newcastle last summer.

Owen admitted he is desperate to go to the World Cup next summer and pointed to his past international record as justification for his inclusion in Fabio Capello's final 23-man squad.

"I'm hopeful but the last thing I want is to be campaigning," said Owen.

"Everyone can see how many games I've played, how many goals I've scored, how many World Cups I've been in, my record against strong opponents in big games.

"Everyone can see everything with their own eyes. There are no secrets with me. I've played 89 games, I've scored 40 goals.

"Everyone knows if I play I'm likely to score every other game. Playing in a World Cup wouldn't bother me. In fact, I'd raise my game, as has happened before in big games.

"I like big games. For some reason I find an extra certain percentage. Everyone knows these things."

United fly to Russia today for Wednesday's Champions League tie against CSKA Moscow with several players set to miss the trip.

Injured players Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher are all likely to be left behind to ensure they are fully fit for the trip to Liverpool.

Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev faces an audition against the club many expect he will soon join.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has played down concerns over CSKA Moscow's artificial surface ahead of Wednesday's Champions League tie.

United return to the Luzhniki stadium 17 months after beating Chelsea to win the trophy after a penalty shoot-out.

Despite England losing on the pitch in a Euro 2008 qualifier two years ago, Ferguson said: "It is a passing surface and we have good passers in our side. I watched CSKA's last European game. I didn't see any issue with the pitch."

The Old Trafford outfit are currently on top of Group B with CSKA in third place on goal difference.

With the hosts having already seen off Besiktas on the plastic surface in their previous Champions League match, Ferguson and his players will leave nothing to chance in the Russian capital.

Wayne Rooney, still recovering from a calf injury, was part of the England team who lost to Russia 2-1 on the same plastic surface during their dismal European Championships qualifying campaign in 2007.

However, Ferguson, who in the same press conference in Moscow refused to answer a question relating to his Football Association charge for comments about referee Alan Wiley, remained confident of coming through this tricky tie on such a pitch.

"When Luton and QPR had them all those years ago we always played well on them," the 67-year-old Scot added.

"We had a great record at those artificial pitches and that was when the artificial pitches weren't as good. The one in Moscow has a far better covering on it."

United's boss remained wary of the 2005 Uefa Cup winners, having to play without the injured Ryan Giggs, Patrice Evra, Park Ji-Sung, Darren Fletcher and Rooney.

"The Champions League for a few years now has had a tremendous amount of quality in it," he said.

"I think the Russian teams in particular have improved a lot in the last few years thanks to big investment. There are a lot of Brazilian players in Russia now. So you can expect a difficult game there and it's a surface which we're not used to playing on."

Manchester United target Igor Akinfeev has hailed the 'great' English champions - and Sir Alex Ferguson has returned the compliment.

The CSKA Moscow star came within four minutes of becoming only the second goalkeeper this season to keep a clean sheet against United before Antonio Valencia struck to claim a 1-0 win on Wednesday night.

Despite the breach, Ferguson reserved special praise for the 23-year-old, who has been tipped to replace Edwin van der Sar between the posts at Old Trafford.

'Akinfeev had an outstanding game,' said the Scot. 'We had to wait a long time for chances on the CSKA goal.

'CSKA are the youngest team in the (Champions League) group. There are a lot of young players. (Winger Milos) Krasic was very good, but Fabio did his best to close him down.'

CSKA would not stand in the way of their captain going to United this winter, if the price was right and Akinfeev indicated he was ready to make the step up.

The Russia regular has given his clearest indication yet that the move would suit him and claims a friendship with Serbia defender Nemanja Vidic.

'I see in him (Vidic) as a very strong player,' Akinfeev told Russian website Championat. 'I think he made the right choice by going to England. And next to Rio Ferdinand, he will certainly learn many lessons.

'Everyone knows that United are a great club, who have won countless titles. The players in the team are at the highest level.

'You can say that we didn't deserve the defeat, but on the other hand, you can't win when you spend almost the entire match defending.

'We have to create chances at their end. At Old Trafford it will certainly be even more difficult than in Moscow.'

Akinfeev is impressed with United's style, saying they don't conform to the normal stereotype of English long-ball teams.

'If you look at the forward line, it is clear that (Dimitar) Berbatov is the only tall player. (Wayne) Rooney, of course, is a very strong and athletic player, but likes to play with the ball at his feet.

'Owen also works on the ground and you can't say that the players on the wing just mindlessly pump the ball into the box at the first opportunity.'

Akinfeev is similarly free in his praise for 39-year-old Van der Sar, who is expected to retire at the end of the season.

Akinfeev got the better of Van der Sar when Russia beat Holland 3-1 after extra time in the Euro 2008 quarter-final.

'Of course, I can't forget this!' said Akinfeev. 'But Edwin was perhaps the least to blame. On the contrary, I remember three or four times when he really saved the Dutch.

'In general, Van der Sar is a world class goalkeeper who has established this over many years.'

The young Norwegian arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2006 from FK Molde after first being spotted at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's soccer school. Sir Alex Ferguson believes Michael Owen deserves a hero's reception when he runs out for Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday and has claimed the former Liverpool striker remains one of the best goalscorers in world football.

United manager Ferguson will have Wayne Rooney back in his team after the striker came through a full training session yesterday, but Owen will be on the bench at least against his old club as United attempt to make it five defeats in a row for their fierce rivals.

Ferguson said: 'Michael's record at Liverpool stands him apart. Michael played for Liverpool for over a decade and the goals he scored for them mark him down as one of their best-ever strikers.

'That should stand him in good stead with the Liverpool fans but it will be interesting to see what reaction he gets. Whatever happens, he's got the experience to handle it.

'There have been very few players who have played for both clubs. Paul Ince got a bad reception from our fans when he joined Liverpool. Michael may well get that again on Sunday but it is difficult to say.

'He had 10 or 11 years with them. But I don't think it will bother Michael. Everyone wants to be liked but I don't think it will bother him.'

Ferguson surprised everybody this summer when he signed injury-prone Owen on a free transfer after he left Newcastle.

He has scored only twice this season, including a dramatic winner in the 4-3 derby victory against Manchester City, but is likely to play some part at Anfield.

'He is capable of scoring in any type of match, including the highest level,' added Ferguson. 'He has done that throughout his career. He has got a proven record in that respect. We knew that when we bought him. If you are looking only at his c.v. then every club in the world would have taken him.

'The Liverpool thing was never mentioned when we met in the summer. I never even thought about it. I made my mind up about Michael and there was no negotiation. He was desperate to come. It was so simple. He wanted to be back at a top club and have European football.'

With Rooney back in full training and Ryan Giggs also fit, United will be strengthened as they look to earn revenge for the two Barclays Premier League defeats inflicted on them by Liverpool last season.

Blunder Hantui Vidic

MANCHESTER - Defender Manchester United Nemanja Vidic menegaskan bahwa kekalahan 1-4 melawan Liverpool di musim lalu masih menghantuiya. Vidic melakukan blunder yang menyebabkan kekalahan tersebut.

Kedua tim akan kembali bersua pada laga lanjutan Premier League, di Anfield, Minggu (25/10/2009). Vidic mengaku blunder tersebut masih menghantuinya. Dia khawatir akan melakukan kesalahan lagi.

Beach balls are banned, but is it nearly time for Liverpool to throw in the towel that is sold as part of the set? Defeat against Manchester United would represent Liverpool's worst run of form for 56 years and leave a ten-point chasm between these sides.

Liverpool pushed United until the penultimate game of last season's title race, but could end the day virtually out of this one barely two months into the campaign.

Liverpool's official club merchandise Beach Set sold out in the wake of the giant red ball that deflated them at Sunderland last weekend. Manchester United fans are suspected of being behind the sudden demand, but a vigorous search policy at the turnstiles is likely to deprive them of a tribute to Darren Bent's winning goal at the Stadium of Light.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is considering leaving star striker Wayne Rooney out of his team for this afternoon's key Premier League clash at Liverpool - even though he has recovered from the calf injury he suffered while playing for England in Ukraine two weeks ago.

Ferguson confirmed that Rooney celebrated his 24th birthday yesterday by coming through a training session with flying colours, saying: 'He's completely fit, there are no injury worries.'

But sources close to the United dressing room warned that Rooney is not guaranteed a place in the starting line-up because of doubts over his temperament in games against Liverpool.

Born on Merseyside in Croxteth, Rooney is a product of Everton's academy. He grew up as an Everton fan and Ferguson is said to be concerned that Rooney has not produced his best form against Liverpool and that his Everton upbringing could be a factor.

'If he does decide to leave him out, it could be one of the toughest decisions the manager has had to make,' added the source.

United's manager knows he could be risking a confrontation by omitting Rooney from the starting line-up. The striker wants to play in every game, whether for United or England.

Rooney is also about to become a father for the first time, but Ferguson claims not to have spoken with the star about when his wife, Coleen, is due to give birth. 'I've not asked him about it - it's not my baby,' quipped Ferguson.

Sir Alex has also claimed that United cope with Rooney's absence better than England. The Scot believes that, with Dimitar Berbatov to call upon, he can relax - unlike England boss Fabio Capello, who has no other world-class striker.

Ferguson said: 'There is a bigger expectation and pressure on Wayne with England. They look upon him as the No 1 striker. They don't even have a clear partner for him. It's not the same here. We have Berbatov and there isn't the same dependency on Rooney.'

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has given under-fire Rafa Benitez a boost by coming through yesterday's training after recovering from a groin injury and is set to start today.

Former United midfielder Butt pushed Ferguson to sign his former Newcastle United teammate at the end of last season.

"Michael is capable of scoring in any type of match at the highest level," Ferguson said. "He has proved that, we knew that.

"Looking at his CV, I think any club in the world would have taken him.

"The issue was his playing record over the last two or three years and that obviously put some clubs off.

"But I spoke to one or two people about him - Nicky Butt was almost forcing me to sign him, he had so much good to say about the lad.

"I think it was good advice and I took that on board."

Manchester United are worried over the fitness of Edwin van der Sar for the visit to Liverpool today, after the Dutch goalkeeper missed training yesterday.

The former Ajax and Juventus custodian suffered a sore back following United’s 1-0 win at CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night.

Van der Sar’s understudy Ben Foster could come in whilst Tomasz Kuszczak has been placed on standby.

The 38-year-old has played just two games so far this season after picking up an injury in a pre-season friendly with Bayern Munich.

Injury-plagued defensive midfielder Owen Hargreaves is now expected to make his playing return for Manchester United at the beginning of December.

Hargreaves has been out since September 2008 and has undergone operations on both his knee by the esteemed surgeon Dr Richard Steadman to cure tendonitis.

The England midfielder could now return for the Champions League clash with Wolfsburg on December 8.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "He's coming along fine and he's pleased with his own progress, which is a good indication. The Wolfsburg game would be a nice time to bring him back.”

Ferguson added: “It would be good to have him come in on a European night, but it may depend on whether we need anything from the game."

After Ben Foster failed to prove his credentials to take over from Edwin van der Sar long term in the early weeks of the season, Manchester United continue to be linked with some of the top young goalkeepers around Europe.

A report in The People this morning claims United have been watching Germany keeper Rene Adler, this follows transfer rumours in recent months linking the Premier League champions with Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscow), Manuel Neuer (Schalke) and Rui Patricio (Sporting Lisbon).

Adler, 24, is the current Germany number one and played in the most recent two World Cup qualifiers against Russia and Finland. He has spent his whole career at Bayer Leverkusen and is contracted to the club until the end of season 2011/2012.

The Leverkusen custodian is highly rated in Germany, IMScouting’s network of scouts describe Adler as "an excellent goalkeeper with awesome reflexes. Adler has the potential to be the best goalie in Germany - he has amazing presence in the box, and his mentality is of the highest calibre. He is always 100% mentally ready for a challenge, and this has a positive effect on his team."

Van der Sar - 8 - Has timed his return to fitness to perfection. Made several fantastic saves, was calm in possession and charged out to catch any high balls.

O'Shea - 6 - Decent show from the Irishman as he linked well with the impressive Valencia.

Ferdinand - 5 - May have a few regrets when watching his part in Torres' goal. Let him have a yard of space, which is more than enough for the Spaniard to strike.

Vidic - 5 - Given his marching orders for the third time in a row against Liverpool after a block on Kuyt. Played reasonably well otherwise and a soft first booking proved his undoing

Evra - 5 - Not at his best. Booked early for a wild lunge on Torres and gave the ball away a number of times in dangerous positions.

Valencia - 7 - A new found confidence saw him breeze past Insua every time. He delivered a number of measured crosses, from which Rooney almost found the back of the net in the first half. Rattled the bar towards the end of the match.

Carrick - 6 - Better half of United's under-par central midfield. Calm in possession, but that wasn't enough when his team cried out for a source of inspiration.

Scholes - 4 - Lucas and Mascherano's pace sent him off kilter and he didn't seem comfortable on the Anfield pitch. Hooked for Nani.

Giggs - 6 - Played game on the periphery as the battle took place in the centre. Still had flashes of class and played a part in Johnson's failure to supplement Liverpool's attack.

Berbatov - 6 - Non-event of a match for the Bulgarian as he failed to get involved. Booked for a wild lunge in first half and brought off for Owen.

Rooney - 6 - Looked a yard short of his best as Ferguson's decision to bring him back for today failed to come off.

Substitutes

Owen - 6 - Added an extra threat for the visitors and his ability to sniff out a chance led to Carragher hauling him down.

Manajer Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson punya kesan khusus soal wasit usai mencicipi kekalahan dari tuan rumah Liverpool.

Manchester United gagal menambah penderitaan Liverpool setelah mengalami kekalahan 2-0 di Anfield. Laga antara dua seteru besar di Liga Primer Inggris itu menyisakan kekesalan tersendiri bagi Sir Alex Ferguson.

Penampilan United tidak membuat Ferguson puas. Tapi, sang manajer lebih tidak puas lagi atas kepemimpinan wasit Andre Marinner yang mencabut kartu merah untuk Nemanja Vidic pada pengujung pertandingan. Tak hanya Vidic, gelandang Liverpool Javier Mascherano juga mendapat kartu kuning kedua dari wasit berusia 38 tahun itu.

"Aku rasa mereka terpengaruh atmosfir pertandingan. Fans di sini sangat fanatis dan setiap keputusan menempatkan wasit di bawah tekanan," ujar Ferguson seperti dilansir Sky Sports.

"Contohnya Vidic, jelas itu pelanggaran. Tapi dia memenangi bola kedua dan mendapat kartu untuk itu. Penonton lah yang mendesak agar wasit memberinya kartu."

bweh gw juga baru tau.. BPL pake bola baru yg lebih membel... pantes aja gw liatin sekarang header2 suka ngaco kemana2...

(liat brapa gol yg tercipta di BPL melalui free header.. dikit bro... cmn 7)

yah MU dah kalah 2x ni musim, yah sebenernya masih dalam jalur juara lah...

gw berharap para biang kerok (vida,ferdin, evra) bisa kembali konsen ke "bentuk" pertahanan...

gary/ evra (last man behind the 3, biasanya si gery lebih sering)

dan masalahnya sekarang vida kehilangan kemampuan untuk memotong jalur operan
ferdinand juga masih sering kagok, markingnya masih ngaco
evra/gary keseringan maju, lupa mundur
dan carrick... refleknya melambat, tp stamina bertambah...

menurut gw musim ini peran lastman behind, stoper, sama marker diperankan sekaligus oleh vida.. mirip akhir musim lalu, sayangnya vida blom mencapai performa terbaiknya....
