kalo gw liatin Rooney emang kurang efektif jadi singgle striker BILA MU bermain sangat jauh di sayap...

Gary Neville has paid tribute to his fellow elder statesmen at Manchester United, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, and revealed that they will continue play for as long as they are wanted by the club.

The 34-year-old right-back has had a difficult time with injury and lack of game-time over the last two seasons, but has refused to suggest that his United career is coming to an end – though he has conceded publicly that his international career is probably over.

In contrast, Giggs and Scholes are very much first-team regulars for Sir Alex Ferguson, and both midfielders have relied on their experience to adapt their games sufficiently to continue to shine at the highest level, albeit having to miss the odd game to recover between matches.

“Giggsy’s performances have been absolutely outstanding,” Neville said on United’s official website.

“He’s been probably our most creative player in key moments – setting up three goals against [Manchester] City, two against Arsenal, and scoring against Tottenham.

“He’s winning us matches and his performance levels are fantastic. Scholesy is still a brilliant player for us, too. He can still control the pace of matches for us, everything sticks with him and he never wastes a pass. They’re still both fantastic.”

Neville revealed that it was the hunger to continue winning trophies that has kept them going.

He continued: “We keep playing because United keep asking us to!
“There’s still an opportunity for us here and we want to keep winning season upon season.

“If the club told us to leave, we’d leave. Playing for this club is the best thing in the world and we’ve been doing it for a long time now. Why would we want it to stop?

“We still feel as though there are contributions to be made on and off the pitch – and so does the manager, which is the most important thing.”

The defender paid special tribute to Red Devils boss Ferguson, who he singled out as the main reason why the three veterans have never wanted to leave their childhood team.

“The boss is the reason we’re still at the club – and the reason we were given an opportunity in the first place,” Neville explained.

“He promoted youth all those years back, sorted out the youth set-up and has pushed it ever since. Young players have always broken through and he’s been the key to us being here so long; he’s in control.

“We’re soldiers, if you like, and we’re happy to do a job that makes him want to keep us here.”

Manchester United have rewarded burgeoning talents Danny Welbeck and Ritchie de Laet with more lucrative, and extended, contracts.

Welbeck, 18, burst onto the Premier League scene last season when he curled a stunning 30-yard effort into the net on his league debut against Stoke City.

According to the club's official website he has been handed a four-year deal worth £12,000 per week. Welbeck has been likened to Nwankwo Kanu by Sir Alex Ferguson in the past, and has been tipped as an outside candidate for Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.

De Laet, 20, was purchased by Sir Alex Ferguson in January in a somewhat surprise move. He kitted out for Stoke City prior to his United switch. His new deal will expire in 2012.

De Laet was delighted to agree terms: "Alex Ferguson told me I'm very close to the first team.

"There has been talk of me going out on loan but Sir Alex said I can't leave as he may need me. The new contract is a surprise and fantastic news."

The moody French striker raged at coach Manuel Pellegrini after the defeat in Sevilla, when he was again withdrawn, because he was assured that he would not be rotated.

The report states that Benzema's attitude has not gone down well at the Santiago Bernabeu and that his outburst may have more serious repercussions within the squad.

The €35 million signing reportedly believes that playing up front with Raul is hampering him because he thinks that the Madrid captain is not mobile enough and that they cross over each other.

Pellegrini chose to listen to the forward's outburst, remaining silent as the Frenchman fumed that it is his right to play whole games after being brought in for such a large fee from Olympique Lyonnais.

The outburst by the player and the coach's inability to react shows that Pellegrini has less influence than he would like at the club.

In the summer the Chilean coach wanted to keep Alvaro Negredo and use the €35m that was spent on Benzema to keep Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben.

President Florentino Perez wanted a big name up front, and the move for Benzema was made, but that could be about to backfire as the first signs of his temperament are showing.

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is set to return from injury in Tuesday's reserves match away to Everton.

Van der Sar, 38, has missed the start of United's Barclays Premier League campaign after breaking two bones in his left hand in a match against Bayern Munich during the Audi Cup.

Ben Foster has deputised for the Dutchman in United's Premier League fixtures, but it was confirmed on United's website this lunchtime (Tuesday) that Van der Sar will start the match at the Stobart Stadium in Widnes.

He can go on to become the long term number one for club and country or he can let a brightly-coloured future turn into the cold black-and-white of failure.

The choice is that stark. It's up to him. There is no point in wrapping him in cotton wool or giving him the comfort blanket of a dressing room cuddle.

No-one else can do it for him. It's not down to the manager or coaches - it's up to Foster now.

This season threw up a great opportunity for him on two fronts.

With Edwin van der Sar sidelined he had the chance to stamp his authority on the Manchester United first team and with England lacking a dominant keeper, he could also have buttoned down a place in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.

He's let the opportunities slip through his grasp and he's beginning to find out what it means to be a Manchester United player. Old Trafford's 'Theatre of Dreams' can become a nightmarish graveyard for men who aren't big enough to cope with its expectation levels.

It simply hasn't been a good start to the season for the 26-year-old who, at that age, should be reaching his peak.

United report that a chest injury prevented him training late last week. It might have been a factor in his poor performance against Sunderland but the image will still linger in the minds of most people of a 6ft 2in, 12st 8lb goalkeeper being outjumped and outmuscled by Kenwyne Jones for the visitors' second goal.

A confident keeper, having decided to come out for the ball, would have cleared out leather, bone and sinew - anything in his way - to get it away.

But Foster is clearly not buoyed by confidence. It wasn't his first mistake this season. There have been other high profile errors against Chelsea in the Community Shield and Manchester City in the derby. It isn't his first injury either. He missed England's August friendly with a knee problem.

It has to be a growing concern for Sir Alex Ferguson and Fabio Capello that he hasn't played enough football. Since signing professional for Stoke seven years ago, he's only managed 124 first team games. Knee, ankle and hand injuries have blighted him.

He was sent to Watford for two seasons to toughen up and gain more experience. He excelled there. United seemed to have made the right choice over a long-term replacement for Van der Sar. He has all the attributes to prove them right except one - Foster needs to grow into his United shirt.

The club's history is littered with fine players who simply couldn't cope with life under the Stretford End microscope.

Garry Birtles had a league scoring ratio of one every 2.7 games at Nottingham Forest before moving to United where he only netted every five games.

Peter Davenport scored 16 goals in his first season, but then faded. Kleberson won a World Cup with Brazil but couldn't cope with two years at United for whom he played just 30 games. The club took a reported £4m loss on him.

Eric Djemba Djemba was a £3.5m misfit and at £28.1m, Juan Sebastian Veron came with a massive global reputation but did not live up to it.

Goalkeepers? They've had a few, but then again too few to mention in glowing terms.

Fabien Barthez had a good title-winning year in 2001 before the cracks appeared against Deportivo La Coruna and Arsenal the following season.

For every great save like the one against Liverpool's Didi Hamann, a comic caper followed. Massimo Taibi's calamitous display in the 5-0 defeat at Chelsea was one of the worst I've seen from any keeper, anywhere.

To understand how they could have possibly failed at a club of such great tradition with such magnificent players around them, the exhausting burden of that tradition has to be taken into consideration along with the suffocating experience of having to play every game like a cup final under the glare of a worldwide audience.

It was interesting to read Michael Owen's comments last week explaining that at United you are expected to play at the top of your game in every match.

No other club in this modern age has enjoyed United's success. No other club's players are expected to repeat that success again and again and again. The pressure must be mind-rattling. The demands laid down by Sir Alex Ferguson must be daunting. But that's why he's a winner. Losers fall by the wayside.

However, others in the current squad have managed it.

Darren Fletcher had to withstand dog's abuse from his own fans in the early days, Rio Ferdinand had uncomfortable days after his move from Leeds, and Cristiano Ronaldo's first season was underwhelming. Strength of character and positive thinking got them through. These are the qualities Foster now needs, and quickly.

With Van der Sar expected back in the coming weeks, the Leamington Spa-born keeper will probably find himself understudy again. He has no chance of playing in the World Cup finals unless he's a first team regular. He and United will have big choices to make.

Reports suggest that Old Trafford keeper's coach Eric Steele has been "hard" on the player. He has to be.

Foster has all the talent he needs and it would be a crying shame to see it go to waste.

He can go on to become the long-term number one for club and country, but the club may not be Manchester United.

Edwin van der Sar has declared himself fit for Manchester United's next game and the keeper's comeback is more bad news for Ben Foster.

Van der Sar has been out of action since breaking his hand in pre-season, with Foster filling in between the sticks.

But the Englishman has made a string of errors and his latest, when he gifted Kenwyne Jones his chance to put Sunderland ahead in Saturday's draw at Old Trafford, resulted in a bust-up with manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to the Daily Star, Ferguson let rip at Foster in the dressing room and after being left out of the England squad for the final two World Cup qualifiers, the 26-year-old could find himself in exile at United.

Van der Sar played 90 minutes when United's reserves beat Everton on Tuesday night and the 39-year-old is keen to make up for lost time.

He said: 'I will be ready for Bolton (on October 17),' he told MUTV. 'I feel good and I haven't had any reaction. The match is still 10 days away so I have more training to do, then I will be ready for my first start of the season.'

The Red Devils have already dropped five points in their first eight games and trips to Liverpool on October 25 and Chelsea on November 8 are looming fast.

For Van der Sar that offers another chance to test himself at the highest level having cast doubt on the general assumption that he will retire in the summer.

'Of course I could train but there are a lot of lads away on international duty so there are not many players around,' he said.

'I just felt this was the ideal opportunity to get some action in a real game.'

Sejumlah suratkabar Inggris memberitakan telah terjadi perpecahan di tubuh Manchester United. Daily Star dan Guardian mengungkapkan, penjaga gawang Ben Foster dikabarkan telah bersitegang dengan pelatih Sir Alex Ferguson di kamar ganti usai ditahan imbang Sunderland 2-2.

Ferguson menyalahkan Foster yang tidak mampu menggagalkan satu gol Sunderland. Ketika itu, Foster duel di udara dengan ujung tombak Kenwyne Jones. Yang dipermasalahkan Ferguson, lompatan Foster masih kalah tinggi dibandingkan Jones, sehingga bola dengan mudah ditanduk ke dalam gawang.

Manchester United summer signing Gabriel Obertan is settling in at Old Trafford thanks to a bit of gardening!

The French winger has yet to play since signing from Bordeaux in a £3m deal in July because of a back problem.

But he’s passing his time by helping out one of the senior Academy staff maintain his garden.

United’s Academy director Brian McClair said: “New signing Gabriel Obertan is injured at the moment and can’t train and it seems he has developed a keen interest in gardening.

Fiorentina youngster Stevan Jovetic is still over the moon after last week's brace against Liverpool that gave the Italian outfit a crucial three points in their Champions League campaign.

"Beating Liverpool was surreal. I'm still dreaming," he said in an interview with Blic.

There are few keepers in Europe with Artur’s dominance and he is the type of player who breeds confidence in his back four and after four years in Scotland he may well be ready to take that step up to Old Trafford.

Manchester United's interest in Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar is real, but the Brazilian is expected to sign a new deal with the Milanese giants, according to his agent, Josias Cardoso.

Voices surrounding the 'keeper on Tuesday claimed that he was wanted by a major club. It now appears that team is none other than Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United. Cardoso has revealed the Red Devils opened up early discourse, but nothing concrete emerged.

"Yes, United have shown an interest in Julio, but they have never made an official offer," the agent told Tuttosport.

Earlier, Nerazzurri director Marco Branca was quick to fire-fight the rumours, claiming a new deal was in the pipeline. Cardoso has confirmed the news coming from Appiano Gentile.

"At the moment we are speaking with Inter about renewing Julio's deal, but we have still not found a consensus," added the agent.

"We hope to reach an accord by the end of the month. This is our objective."

FIFA has given the all-clear for Paul Pogba to be registered as a United player.

Le Havre, the 16-year-old's previous club, had lodged a complaint against Pogba's move to Old Trafford, claiming that they had agreed to enter into a contract with the midfielder at the start of the 2009/10 season.

However, after studying the case, a judge has ruled in favour of the English champions, declaring that Pogba was not contractually linked to Le Havre.

As such, United have not breached any FIFA regulations - specifically Article 19, which focuses on the protection of minors - and world football's governing body has advised the FA to register Pogba as a United player with immediate effect.

A club spokesman told ManUtd.com: "Manchester United is pleased to confirm that the Football Association has been authorised by FIFA to register Paul Pogba as a United player with immediate effect."

Le Havre have the right to appeal FIFA's decision.

Manchester United could be thrown into financial turmoil if the Glazer family leave the club, former chairman Martin Edwards has warned.

Despite United completing a hat-trick of Barclays Premier League titles and reaching successive Champions League finals, the Glazers remain almost £700million in debt owing to enormous annual repayments on the money borrowed to buy the club in 2005.

Edwards, the man who hired Sir Alex Ferguson and spent 22 years as United chairman, became the first prominent Old Trafford figure to echo the fears of fans and question what may happen in the long term.

Edwards, now a United honorary life president, said: 'It concerns me that the club are in so much debt.

'The club are not in control, the family are in control of the debt. I can understand where the fans are coming from with their concerns. I'm not going to make any accusations because, up to now, they have behaved fairly well, supporting the manager. And they haven't disrupted the running of the club or the personnel within the club.

'But time will tell. The crunch time will come when they exit. Will they saddle the club with the debt or just sell the club on for a profit because that's all they are interested in? How will they leave the club?'

When the Glazers bought United for £828m more than four years ago, they borrowed £556m, more than 70 per cent of which is secured against the club's assets. As of June last year, this debt stood at £699m.

Edwards' comments last night will elicit sympathy from many United fans, especially those who deserted the club in protest at the takeover and established the breakaway side FC United.

But his views will not endear him to manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who has several times spoken out in praise of the Glazers.

The Glazers' spokesman was not available for comment, but the Americans' standard response on the issue has been that they have bought into United for the long-haul and do not anticipate selling.

Jumlah utang tersebut terus berkembang menjadi 699 juta poundsterling (8,4 triliun) hingga akhir Juni 2009 lalu.

Proses akuisisi yang menggunakan uang pinjaman tersebut sempat mengundang protes banyak fans MU. Apalagi muncul kecurigaan kalau keluarga Glazer nantinya menjual MU demi mendapat keuntungan. Dan saat Glazer pergi itulah krisis keuangan bisa menerpa "Setan Merah".

"Waktu akan mengungkap semua. Masa-masa sulit akan datang saat mereka pergi. Apakah mereka mengendalikan klub dengan utang atau hanya akan menjual klub demi mendapat keuntungan karena bukankah pada hal-hal seperti itu mereka tertarik?," pungkas orang yang merekrut Sir Alex Ferguson sebagai manajer di tahun 1986 itu

MILAN, KOMPAS.com - Bukan hanya Julio Cesar yang ingin dibeli Manchester United. Rekan satu tim Cesar di Inter Milan, Douglas Maicon, juga pernah membuat "Setan Merah" jatuh hati dan ingin merebutnya.

Kabar soal ketertarikan MU terhadap bek asal Brasil itu disampaikan oleh agen Maicon, Antonio Caliendo. Caliendo mengungkapkan, sudah sejak MU memantau permainan pemain 28 tahun itu. Namun, tidak ada tindak lanjut yang jelas dari kedua pihak.

"Ketertarikan Manchester United kepada klienku, bukanlah hal baru. Mereka mengintainya sudah lama," klaim Caliendo kepada TuttoPremier.it. "Meski demikian, tidak pernah ada kontak apa pun."

Sejak Gary Neville memasuki usia senja, MU belum punya pemain tetap untuk menjaga sayap kanan mereka. Stevan Jovetic juga menolak Real Madrid dan Barcelona karena tidak ingin menjadi pemain cadangan.

Stevan Jovetic, sensasi baru Fiorentina, tersanjung dengan keinginan Manchester United (MU) memboyongnya ke Old Trafford tapi tidak ingin meninggalkan La Viola.

Wayne Rooney has no plans to fly back from Ukraine to attend the birth of his first child.

Rooney's wife Coleen is not due for another fortnight, so the Manchester United star set aside any concerns that his wife may go into labour early to board the flight taking England to Dnepropetrovsk for Saturday's World Cup qualifier.

The 23-year-old had suggested he would remain at home if the delivery was imminent. However, now he has made the journey, it seems he can only cross his fingers and hope.

'If something happened I am sure I will try and work something out but I have no plans at the minute,' he said.

'Once we get to Friday, if I am over in Ukraine and the baby has already been born, there is no point going back.'

With England due to leave immediately after tomorrow's match, Rooney will only be out of the country for just over 48 hours.

According to Coleen's due dates, any disruption to Rooney's professional schedule is likely to come when United visit CSKA Moscow on Champions League duty in a fortnight's time.

You stayed in America for your rehabilitation. Did it help being away from United and everything you missed out on here?
Absolutely. If you have a muscle injury you’re out for maybe two weeks, but you’re focused on getting back in a short space of time. With an injury of this severity, both physically and mentally it’s important that you try and do everything you can and be really focused on your aims. Being here, the football and playing side of it is so important, I’d have been confronted with it on a daily basis. For someone like me, who can’t play for an extended period of time it would have been really tough. It was better being in an environment where I could focus on getting well, do my training and have no distractions. It worked very well. In fact, it was absolutely perfect.

What was an average day like over there?
It varied, obviously. In the days after surgery with the brace on, I’d be trying to get around on crutches in the winter which was tricky enough! Then I’d go to the clinic and try and bend my knee even just a couple of degrees. The first 6-8 weeks, I could barely bend it at all. I’d do physiotherapy work twice a day, in the morning and afternoon. It was the same procedure for about two months after my second operation. Slowly after that I’d do a bit more and make sure the tendon had healed, so that meant seeing the surgeon at various stages to get his input. It was all about trying to give myself a healthy knee again.

What was your inspiration, what drove you on in the tough days?
I didn’t have too many dark times, I tried to be as positive as I could. It’s not in my nature to be negative. Maybe for one day I might have said, ‘why me?’, but, you know, those questions lead to nothing. In life we all have experiences, good and bad. And sometimes I think you learn more from the bad ones. Ideally, I’d wish I wouldn’t have had to go through it. But I have had to get through. I’ve learnt a lot, met some wonderful people, and hopefully it will improve me in the future. It’s my aim to use this experience to my benefit.

Has the experience changed you in any way?
Yeah, I think it has. I think mentally, people who have struggled through something and strived to achieve something, have an edge over people who have had everything done for them or who’ve experienced everything going their way. You learn a lot from the difficult situations in life, and I’ve learnt a lot. There were days when I’d struggle to do an exercise, or when my knee would be really sore, and I’d just think about the times when I was trying to bend my knee just five degrees – they were big victories along the way, and that inspired me and spurred me on. You could see the progression that I was making and I tried to use that as motivation.

How did you fill your time between training? Did you pick up any new hobbies?
Just before I left England I bought about ten DVDs expecting that I’d have all this free time… I didn’t watch one of them! I was just so focused on my rehab, all I did was eat, sleep and train. I read a few books, but I was just totally consumed with what I had to do. You would have thought you’d have all this spare time – I didn’t have any! I was training at every opportunity. That was all I had time for.

What was the reaction of the United players when you came back recently?
It’s been great. That was one of the things that I really missed, being with the guys in the dressing room. There is such a great energy around this club, and that’s not just the players. It’s everyone that works here. There are so many people who’ve been here a long time. It’s a unique place, especially for such a competitive environment. The reception was great. It’s fantastic being around the lads, the different characters and personalities. It helps.

And finally, what will it be like when you’re standing in the tunnel at Old Trafford waiting to run out on the pitch again?
[Pauses and smiles] It will be amazing. I’ll be so excited I’ll probably pass out!

Eks Presiden Klub Risaukan Utang Manchester United

Martin Edwards angkat bicara tentang klub yang pernah dipimpinnya.

Martin Edward, mantan presiden Manchester United yang masih terus menonton aksi klub dari boks direksi, menyatakan kerisauannya tentang kepemilikan klub oleh keluarga Glazer.

Sejak dipegang keluarga pengusaha asal Amerika Serikat itu, jumlah utang United menjulang dan ini merisaukan Edwards, meski merasa penanganan sang pemilik baru di Old Trafford masih bisa dibuktikan.

"Besarnya utang sungguh merisaukanku. Klub tidak terkendali," ujarnya kepada The Daily Telegraph.

"Keluarga Glazer mengendalikan jumlah utang dan aku paham kenapa fans bisa cemas."

"Aku rasa waktu akan membuktikan apakah mereka pemilik yang baik dan aku masih merasa seperti itu. Aku juga merasa mereka tidak melakukan kesalahan sejauh ini."

"Masa sulit akan tiba jika mereka pergi. Apakah mereka meninggalkan klub tanpa utang atau menjual klub demi mencari keuntungan karena itulah yang mereka inginkan? Seperti apa mereka meninggalkan klub? Waktu akan menjawab."

Edwards lah yang menunjuk Alex Ferguson menjadi manajer United pada 1986 dan hampir memecatnya musim 1989/90.

Kini, Edwards merasa Ferguson, 68 tahun, masih akan terus melatih United hingga ulang tahun ke-70.

"Manajer masih berperan penting dan dia menjalani karir yang panjang," imbuhnya.

"Aku rasa dia akan berpikir untuk pensiun setelah berusia 70 tahun. Dia lebih lama berkiprah dibandingkan Matt Busby dan warisannya akan terus dikenang."

"Penunjukan manajer berikutnya akan menjadi keputusan besar dan mudah-mudahan ada manajer yang muncul untuk meneruskan kiprah Sir Alex."

The Manchester United stopper, 26, has been blamed for a string of failures and is out of the England squad with a chest injury.

But Stoke boss Tony Pulis, who was his manager between 2002 and 2005, said: "Everyone wrote David James off a few years ago but he is back in the England squad.

CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev is set to join Manchester United next summer if Edwin van der Sar finally hangs up his gloves.

Holland veteran Van der Sar will decide in December whether he will seek a new contract, but has already said this season is likely to be his last.

Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson said last year that the 38-year-old would not continue beyond 2010 and is ready to make Akinfeev his new No 1 after an unimpressive audition by Ben Foster this season.

Akinfeev is ambitious and has been tipped to star abroad by Russia boss Guus Hiddink, though he will not consider a move to Old Trafford if Van der Sar continues.

Negotiations would start following the former Ajax and Juventus veteran's December announcement, which suits CSKA as this is during the off-season in Russia.

Akinfeev is vastly experienced despite being just 23. He has been a regular for CSKA since breaking into the team as a 17-year-old and later became Russia's youngest international aged 18 years and 20 days.

He has accumulated 35 caps and is set to line up in Russia's crunch World Cup qualifier against Germany in Moscow on Saturday.

United fans get a chance to see him more closely when their team play CSKA in the Champions League on October 21 at the Luzhniki Stadium. The teams also meet at Old Trafford on November 3.

Akinfeev is very highly regarded in Russia and has been voted goalkeeper of the year in three of the last four seasons, though there are pundits that doubt he can make it at the very highest level.

At 6ft 1in, his lack of height could be problematic and there are criticisms that he is not physically imposing enough in the box.

But Hiddink this week dismissed concerns and believes the man he trusts between the posts is ready to make the step up.

'From an early age, Igor has been the main goalkeeper at CSKA,' said the Russia boss. 'He is ambitious enough to look beyond his own nose.

'In the future - perhaps the near future - for his career and personal growth, it would be nice for Akinfeev to move to one of Europe's top clubs. For me it is obvious.

'I don't want to make predictions, but he is ready to move now. Igor is a very smart, intelligent and responsible young man and - more importantly - extrememly talented. In order to develop your talent, sometimes you need a new challenge.'

CSKA have previously scared off suitors by asking £20million for Akinfeev, but president Yevgeny Giner says there is no point keeping players who want to take better opportunities and he did not stand in the way of Yuri Zhirkov's move to Chelsea last summer.

Manchester United have pinpointed Middlesbrough winger as the long-term replacement for Ryan Giggs, according to a report in the Sunday Mirror.

Brian McNally writes: "Manchester United will head a posse of Premier League clubs trying to pinch much-coveted Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson in a cut-price January deal."

McNally adds: "The boyhood Old Trafford fan has been tracked by Fergie for well over a year. He sees the left-sided midfielder, who can also play on the right, as a possible long-term replacement for Ryan Giggs."

The 22-year-old winger has been in fine form in the Championship, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 11 appearances for Middlesbrough so far this season.

Manchester United’s summer signing Gabriel Obertan is finally set to make his Manchester United debut after recovering from a spinal injury.

The French Under-21 international has participated in full training and is expected to be included in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first team squad in the next few weeks.

Rooney out, Foster in

Wayne Rooney has pulled out of the England squad for their final World Cup qualifier against Belarus at Wembley on Wednesday with a calf injury.

Rooney played the entire 90 minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Ukraine on Saturday and was described as "incredible" by England coach Fabio Capello.

But he has been sent back to Manchester after consultation with the England medical team.

United will be hoping the injury does not rule him out during a crucial week that sees United entertain Bolton on Saturday before travelling to CSKA Moscow and Liverpool.

The FA confirmed on their website: "The squad trained [on Sunday afternoon] after returning from Ukraine. But following a scan on his calf, Wayne Rooney has returned to Manchester United."

It's one United player out, and another in as Ben Foster was recalled to the squad ahead of Wednesday's game.

Foster was initially ruled out after sustaining a chest injury against Sunderland. But after Robert Green's red card in Ukraine, and subsequent suspension, Foster has been drafted in to play understudy to David James.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is still interested in Brazilian sensation Douglas Costa, dubbed the "new Ronaldinho." Sport.co.uk understands talks are still taking place between the player's club Gremio, and Manchester United's Chief South American scout who handles the Red Devil's affairs in the new world.

Gremio reportedly refused to allow the player to join Manchester United for a trial in the summer, and media reports in England suggested a deal was dead between the two clubs. However according to one of Douglas Costa's European advisors, a deal could still happen in the future.

He told Sport.co.uk: "I cannot say much. Nothing has changed. It is early stages. Talks are ongoing."

The 19-year-old who has been courted by Sir Alex Ferguson in the last year is rumoured to have a £20 million buy-out-clause, and has also been watched by scouts from Chelsea and Barcelona.

Manchester United centre-back Jonny Evans has today pulled out of Northern Ireland's squad to face the Czech Republic in Prague on Wednesday night.

Evans joins Kyle Lafferty, George McCartney, Sammy Clingan, Andrew Little and Chris Brunt as absentees, as Nigel Worthington's men chase a miraculously impressive victory to keep their faint hopes of a place at next summer's World Cup alive.

Obertan joined United on a four-year deal from Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux in July for a £3 million fee, but was immediately sidelined by a spinal problem.

Edwin van der Sar bisa pulih lebih cepat dari yang diperkirakan sebelumnya dan bertekad kembali menjadi kiper utama.

Penjaga gawang asal Belanda ini menderita cedera sejak pra-musim dan posisinya digantikan oleh Ben Foster yang sementara ini menjadi pilihan utama Sir Alex Ferguson.

Meskipun sempat tampil bagus di beberapa pertandingan awal, performa Foster menunjukkan grafik menurun dan kurang konsisten.

Bukan kebetulan kalau menurunnya penampilan kiper asal Inggris itu bersamaan dengan pulihnya kondisi Van der Sar atau VDS.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will assess Ben Foster’s form and Edwin van der Sar’s return from injury over the next couple of months before deciding on James.

Van der Sar is due to return from injury on Saturday and, in a further blow to Foster, has vowed to hold on to his spot for another season, saying: “I do want my place back.”

Portsmouth are already braced for a battle to hang on to James in January but know they would be virtually powerless to stop him from moving to Old Trafford.

And he would be eligible to play in the Champions League. James, who would cost only about £1million, proved he is the leading candidate to start next summer’s World Cup as first-choice for England by producing an assured performance in the 1-0 defeat against Ukraine.


It is expected James will start England’s fi nal World Cup qualifier against Belarus tomorrow, with Robert Green, sent off against Ukraine, suspended.


Foster has been less than convincing in his efforts to prove he can succeed Van der Sar, 38, who is yet to play this season after breaking two bones in his hand.


Van der Sar made his comeback from injury in a reserve game against Everton last week and Ferguson will now monitor his recovery .

Liputan6.com, Manchester: Manajer Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson layak berpikir tujuh keliling sebelum memberikan komentar atas kinerja wasit dalam laga antara MU versus Bolton Wanderers yang rencananya akan digelar di Old Trafford Stadium, Sabtu (17/10).

Pasalnya, laga di pekan kesembilan itu bakal dipimpin Mark Clattenburg, wasit yang punya rekor pernah menjatuhkan sanksi berupa denda kepada Ferguson dan anak buahnya.

Seperti yang dilansir The Sun, ditunjuknya Clattenburg, wasit kelahiran Consett, County Durham, berusia 34 tahun yang disebut-sebut sebagai wasit muda paling potensial di Negeri Ratu Elizabeth itu diputuskan dalam pertemuan Komisi Wasit, Selasa (13/10) kemarin.

Menurut mantan wasit terkemuka di Liga Premier, putusan itu merupakan jawaban dari Komisi Wasit atas ulah Ferguson yang menuding Alan Wiley, pengadil di laga MU versus Sunderland, Sabtu (3/10) tidak cukup fit untuk menjadi wasit di kompetisi premiership (Baca: Ferguson Terancam Dituntut FA). “Clattenburg jadi wasit di Old Trafford? Brilian. Saya yakin, mereka memutuskan hal ini dengan tujuan untuk menendang balik Ferguson menyusul perlakuannya terhadap Wiley,” ujar sang wasit.

Menengok ke belakang, Clattenburg memang kerap jadi musuh Ferguson. Pasalnya, laga di pekan kesembilan itu bakal dipimpin Mark Clattenburg, wasit yang punya rekor pernah menjatuhkan sanksi berupa denda kepada Ferguson dan anak buahnya.

Seperti yang dilansir The Sun, ditunjuknya Clattenburg, wasit kelahiran Consett, County Durham, berusia 34 tahun yang disebut-sebut sebagai wasit muda paling potensial di Negeri Ratu Elizabeth itu diputuskan dalam pertemuan Komisi Wasit, Selasa (13/10) kemarin.

"Saya sadar bila saya meninggalkan United, saya akan mendapatkan karir hebat. Namun, ketika saya melihat ke belakang, saya mengira semua berjalan dengan lancar," lanjut bek asal Republik Irlandia itu.

O'Shea sempat mendapatkan kehormatan menjadi kapten United, pada laga pembuka Premier League melawan Birmingham. Namun, hal itu justru sempat membuatnya khawatir.

"Hal itu sempat membuat saya khawatir," tambah O'Shea. "Anda tahu Anda memang akan menjadi seorang dewasa. Namun, saya sudah terbiasa berpikir saya masih pemain muda."

"Secara keseluruhan, itu merupakan penghargaan bagus buat seseorang yang sudah 10 tahu berkarir di klub seperti Manchester United. Kini, saya ingin melanjutkan karir dan tetap menjadi bagian dari tim ini," tandas pemain 28 tahun itu.

"Pada usia 16 tahun, Gabriel merupakan salah satu pemain yang luar biasa di Eropa. Tapi, dalam kurun waktu satu setengah tahun ini, cedera menjadi momok menakutkan buatnya," lanjut pelatih asal Skotlandia itu.

"Kami mengharapkan banyak hal darinya. Gabriel merupakan anak yang baik, dia bisa berbicara bahasa Inggris dengan baik dan dia tidak memiliki masalah beradaptasi di tim ini," tandasnya.

Belgian publication Het Laatste Nieuws claims that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has personally written to Standard Liege captain Steven Defour to wish him a speedy recovery from a broken foot and sparked suggestions that the Red Devils are keen on signing the 21-year-old. The highly-rated midfielder, who is thought to be on the radar of both Arsenal, Everton and Real Madrid, is likely to miss several more weeks of action ruling him out of much of his team’s Champions League group stage games.

"Dear Steven, I heard about your injury," the letter supposedly reads. "You will probably be devastated at the moment and you'll have all kinds of questions. However, there is no reason to be concerned as everything will work out fine. You'll have to work hard to return to match action, but I'll keep on monitoring your situation. I will stay in touch with Standard Liege and I wish you a speedy recovery."

Defour is understood to have confirmed the receipt of the letter but stressed that it was sent to him via the club and not addressed personally.

Palermo defender Simon Kjaer has revealed he could leave the Stadio Renzo Barbera following the World Cup next summer.

Kjaer, who will head to South Africa with Denmark, is reportedly wanted by a number of Italian clubs, including Juventus and Milan.

The highly-rated stopper has hinted that he could move on, but noted that he would be equally happy to continue at the Sicilian club.

"I am aware that if I play well in the World Cup, I will have a good chance of changing teams," Kjaer told Sporten.

"However, I am not in any rush. I have to be patient and play well every Sunday, this is the most important thing for me.

"But it will not make much difference what team I play for next season."
